  3. Overview: The economy, destroyed during the regime of former 
  4. President Macias Nguema, is now based on agriculture, forestry, 
  5. and fishing, which account for about 60% of GNP and nearly 
  6. all exports. Subsistence agriculture predominates, with 
  7. cocoa, coffee, and wood products providing income, foreign 
  8. exchange, and government revenues. There is little industry. 
  9. Commerce accounts for about 10% of GNP, and the construction, 
  10. public works, and service sectors for about 34%. Undeveloped 
  11. natural resources include titanium, iron ore, manganese, 
  12. uranium, and alluvial gold.  Oil exploration is taking place 
  13. under concessions offered to US, French, and Spanish firms.
